Al-Hussein Technical University (HTU) and Cowater International Sunday signed an MoU on sustainable development in renewables and energy efficiency in Jordan.
Cowater International implements the Economic Development and Sustainable Energy Project in Jordan.
The MoU is aimed at developing "high-quality" training courses on the installation of PV systems and solar heaters, and it seeks the rationalisation of energy consumption.
President of the HTU Prof Ismael Hinti thanked the Canadian Embassy and ambassador who was present in the signing ceremony support, highlighting Canada's understanding of the importance of technical education and support for the energy sector.
Hinti emphasised that the University pays great attention to the energy field of study, as the HTU has established several partnerships with major factories and companies specialized in the field of energy and sustainable energy.
He said the HTU sponsors in its leadership and innovation centre several start-ups specialized in the field of rationalising energy consumption, adding the University offers capacity-building programmes on renewables and energy efficiency, as it is aware that this is a "vital" sector amidst international efforts to address climate change.
Canadian Ambassador Donica Pottie highlighted the importance of leveraging the MoU to support future projects in the field of energy that would contribute to creating job opportunities, noting that Jordanian-Canadian ties are strong and founded on shared values.
