Jordanian students compete in annual national debate competition

29 June 2022

Students from 12 Jordanian public and pivate universities will compete in the 2021/2022 National Student Debate Competition which kicked off Wednesday, according to a Crown Prince Foundation (CPF) statement.

The two-day compeition is part of "Ana Usharek" ("I Participate"), a youth-centered civic and democracy training program delivered by the CPF in cooperation with the National Democratic Institute (NDI) under funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The competition, as the name implies, is a debate between student teams on a topic of public interest, in which they are expected to use the evidence-gathering and argumentation skills they acquired through the "Ana Usharek" program to support their arguments on either side.

The Ana Usharek program offers a series of guided, interactive discussion sessions on democratic concepts and processes to raise awareness of Jordanian youth on political participation and create safe avenues for youth to discuss, debate, and exercise democratic principles and international best practices.
